The Saint Joseph Volleyball Team looks to continue their dominance into the 2023 season. 

Head Coach Miguel Cabrita has had one of the most illustrious high school coaching careers across all sports in New Jersey. Entering his 21st season with the Falcons, Cabrita has been racking up the hardware throughout his tenure, winning the Tournament of Champions in both 2006 and 2008, three State Sectional Titles, and three of the last 12 GMC Championships.

Last Year, the Falcons achieved one of their most successful seasons yet, going 32-6, their best record since 2013. Saint Joe’s defeated Old Bridge, 2-0,  in the GMC Championship game and was ranked the No. 4 team New Jersey by NJ.com at the end of the year.

The Falcons had three players named to the New Jersey All-State Team: Michael Weikum ‘22 (First Team, All-State and GMC Player of the Year), Scott Schmitt ‘23 (Second Team, All-State) and Jacob Franco ‘22 (Third Team, All-State).

Schmitt placed fourth in the GMC with 43 aces, fourth in Kills with 226, and nearly doubled the nearest non-Saint Joseph player in blocks with 110 (John Toolan ‘22 had 74). 

Nick Drake ‘24 led Saint Joe’s and placed second in the GMC for Assists with 657 on the year. Drake was also named to the New Jersey All-Central Second Team.

Schmitt and Drake will be joined by Bobby Ilcyn ‘23, Sam Contursi ‘25 and Noah Stout ‘24, with high expectations and a run at the NJSIAA Group 2 Championship on the horizon.
