Ice Hockey

Skating into action, the Falcons Ice Hockey Team makes their presence known to anyone on the other side of the rink.

NEWS

Saint Joe’s Ice Hockey has been a top team in the GMC over the last decade. Led by four-time GMC Coach of the Year Ryan Carter ‘91/P’19, the Falcons have won 14 regular season conference championships and three Egan Conference titles. He has built a culture of hard work and dedication over the years, helping the layers improve on and off the ice.

In recent history, the Saint Joseph Hockey team has won nine GMC Championships (12-17,19-21) and three Eagan Cup titles (2016, 2017, and 2021).

Notable alumni include Marc Johnstone ‘16 (currently playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins), Christian Jensen ‘04 (drafted by the San Jose Sharks), Shawn Breen, Nathaniel "N.G." Welsh, Daren Helmold, and Anthony Inverno.

Alumni

Meet the alumni players who have gone on to play at the collegiate and professional levels.

Annual Alumni Ice Hockey Game: Wednesday, December 28 at 6:45 pm at Woodbridge Community Center

Marc Johnstone (Class of 2015) is playing for the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.  The Marlies are the AHL affiliate of the NHL Toronto Maple Leafs.  Marc was a four-year varsity player and captain for the Falcons. He amassed over 100 points playing both forward and defense.  Following his Falcon career, he led the Chicago Steel (USHL) to their first-ever Clark Cup Championship.  His success carried forward to a four-year career at NCAA D1 Sacred Heart (American Hockey Conference) and then onto the professional ranks with the Newfoundland Growlers (ECHL affiliate of the NHL Toronto Maple Leafs).

Kyle Jeffers (Class of 2017), has completed his first season at American International College (Atlantic Hockey Conference NCAA Division I). The team qualified for the NCAA Regional Tournament by capturing the Atlantic Conference championship. As the 4th seed in the Fargo Regional, they faced the 1st seed North Dakota. The game was won by North Dakota, but this was a great accomplishment for the program, especially given this season's challenges. Here is what Head Coach had to say about Kyle upon his initial arrival at AIC:
"Coaches Corner: "Kyle produced record-setting numbers in junior hockey and, more importantly, is a great human being that will be an outstanding addition to our culture," Schneider said." We look forward to watching Kyle's career blossom at AIC.

Kyle Jeffers (Class of 2017) scored his first collegiate goal (American International College) on December 15 2020 vs Army. The Yellow Jackets won 4-1 in an Atlantic Conference (NCAA Division I) hockey game played on December 15, 2020, at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. This is Kyle's first season with AIC after completing two seasons with the New Jersey Titans.

Welcome, Sean Rappleyea (Class of 2013), to the Coaching Staff beginning with the 2020-21 season! We are delighted to have Sean Rappleyea join our coaching staff. A four-year Varsity Falcon, Sean was the Defenseman of the Year for the Ottawa Junior Senators (CCJHL) and then competed for the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers (WCHA NCAA Division I). Welcome back, Sean!

We are extremely proud of Senior Eric Freda (Class of 2020) as the winner of the GMC Sportsmanship Award for Saint Joseph's for 2020!  Congratulations Eric!  Watch the virtual awards ceremony here, hosted by Saint Joseph Alum Greg Tufaro.
