Former Saint Joseph High School starting pitcher Donovan Zsak ‘22 dreams of becoming a professional baseball pitcher came true during the 2024 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

The Scotch Plains native, who pitched for the Falcons from 2018 to 2022, was drafted in the eighth round by the Cleveland Guardians.

Zsak pitched in parts of two seasons for Saint Joe’s, totaling 48 innings pitched, allowing 19 runs and striking out 93 opposing hitters. The Falcons were 11-4 in his 15 career appearances.

After graduating in 2022, Zsak was a consensus top 10 prospect in New Jersey by Perfect Game USA and Prep Baseball Report. Zsak initially committed to Virginia, but transferred to Rutgers before throwing a single collegiate pitch.

In one full season as a Scarlet Knight (2024), Zsak posted a 4.11 ERA over 35 innings pitched. Over his 19 appearances, he allowed 16 earned runs and 22 hits, striking out 39 batters while walking 20 opposing hitters.

Zsak joins Adam Boucher ‘20 as the latest Falcons to be drafted by a Major League Baseball team. Boucher was selected in the 10th round by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2023 MLB draft.
