The Saint Joseph Theatre Company's fall production, Agatha Christie's courtroom drama Witness for the Prosecution, put on a captivating show for the Saint Joseph community.
“It was an exciting and fun journey to put this show on with this cast,” Co-Director Roel Mercado ‘07 said. “They worked hard and gave performances that impressed our audiences throughout all the shows.”
The story centers around Leonard Vole (Rohan John ’25) and his lawyers Sir Wilfrid Robarts (Elikem Amenuvor ‘25) and Mr. Mayhew (Xavier Giangrante ‘27).
Vole is accused of murder and must stand trial at the Central Criminal Court in London. The prosecutor, Mr. Myers (Brennan Magee ‘25), brings out all possible witnesses and testimonies to prove his guilt, even going as far as recruiting Leonard's wife, Romaine (Ida Lin), to testify against him.
“As Co-Directors, Ms. Thorsen and I felt that the show was perfect for the cast that we had this season,” Mercado said. “We capitalized on the ability of the actors to play serious roles, while also having moments of comedy.”
This was the third production of the play over the last 15 years. In the Fall 2010 production, Sir Wilfrid was played by Mr. Daniel Chedid ‘11 (Science Department) in his senior year and Mayhew was played by Michael Thorsen (brother of Co-Director Ms. Liz Thorsen) in his junior year. In the Summer 2015 production, the prosecutor, Mr. Myers was played by Mr. Roel Mercado ‘07.
