Saint Joseph High School Inducts Inaugural Hall of Distinction Class
Richard Zangara '25

Saint Joseph High School recognized eight alumni and Partners in Mission by inducting them into the inaugural class of the Saint Joseph Hall of Distinction at a dinner and award ceremony held at Metuchen Country Club on October 5.

The evening of the induction ceremony united Falcons of all generations, their families, and Partners in Mission in one room to celebrate the spirit of what makes Saint Joseph High School unique. Inductees and those accepting on behalf of them received their official plaques and gave heartfelt speeches about how Saint Joe’s has prepared them for their life’s achievements.

“Saint Joe’s emphasis in developing character, encouraging critical thought, building a sense of community and the value of service have been guiding principles throughout my 34 years in the Navy,” Inductee and Navy Vice Admiral George M. Wikoff ‘86 said. “While I may not have appreciated those lessons at the time, a more seasoned reflective adult recognizes the profound influence Saint Joe’s had on this kid from New Brunswick.”

The Hall of Distinction began as an idea in 2022 to acknowledge and celebrate distinguished individuals throughout the school’s 63 year history.

Committee Chairman Greg Turfaro ‘85 and 11 other alumni from all eras of the school’s history, identified Saint Joe's alumni, Partners in Mission and friends who have excelled in the categories of Career Achievements, Humanitarian, Military Service, Faith-Based Vocation, and Partners in Mission.

“I am eternally grateful to the members of the Hall of Distinction’s first selection committee,” Nolan said. “They worked together in a thoughtful, inclusive, and tireless way to create a program encompassing the entire history of Saint Joseph High School.”

The inaugural class of the Saint Joseph Hall of Distinction features: Michael Mulqueen ‘72 (Career Achievement), Peter Zaccagnino ‘87 (Career Achievement), Kevin Ryan ‘85 (Humanitarian), John Shibles ‘65 (Humanitarian), Vice Admiral George Wikoff ‘86 (Military Service), Monsignor Charles Cicerale ‘65 (Faith-Based Vocation), Brother Ronald Cairns, S.C. (Partners in Mission) and Brother Richard Leven S.C (Partners in Mission).

Richard Zangara is a senior at Saint Joseph High School and is a member of the Journalism and Digital Production class.
