Maglio Gymnasium is home to the best wrestling team in the Greater Middlesex Conference …again.
For the third straight season, the Falcons took home the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament championship, outrunning the field with 266.5 points. Old Bridge High School placed second with 179 points.
Six Saint Joseph grapplers took home gold, with five of their teammates placing third.
Lower weight wrestlers Nico DeRado ‘27 (120 pounds) and Ivan Rego ‘27 (126 pounds) opened the championship bouts with victories, before the middle weights took over the gym at Piscataway High School.
Sebastian Blumberg ‘25 (150 pounds), Morgan Schwarz ‘26 (150 pounds), Tyler Whitford ‘26 (165 pounds) and Andrew Bouchard ‘25 (175 pounds) won successive titles to put the tournament away.
Whitford and Bouchard won for their respective weight class for the second year in a row.
The Falcons were perfect in their third place matches as well. Julian Arango ‘26 earned the bronze medal in the 113 pound weight class, with Zach Beadling ‘25 (132 pounds), Mason Atkins ‘26 (144 pounds), Giovanni Spallino ‘25 (190 pounds) and Daniel Internoscia ‘25 (215 pounds) rounding out the third place finishes.
