The Saint Joseph High School Model United Nations team exceeded all expectations at their annual regional conference in Hershey, Pennsylvania, earning 13 team and individual awards.
The Saint Joseph High School Model United Nations team exceeded all expectations at their annual regional conference in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Congregating in person for the first time since January 2020, 13 members of the Saint Joe’s team earned individual awards for their work before and during the conference.
Two members of the delegation were invited to the Conference on National Affairs, an exclusive conference that brings together the best from Civic Engagement programs around the country. Saint Joe’s will be represented by Jordan Gopez ‘23 and Connor Spinelli ‘23. Only 24 students that took part in YMCA Conference in Hershey were invited to participate.
Gopez was also named a Premier Delegate, an honor bestowed on the best delegates in each of the conference’s subcommittees.
Stephen Horan ‘25 was named a “Premier First Year Delegate,” making him one of the top rookies in the conference. Horan was assigned to the General Assembly, which is the largest committee in the conference with more than 80 delegates.
Tyler Quesnel ‘24 and Giovanni Olivetti ‘24 were elected to be officers for next year’s conference. They will be working year round to facilitate the experience for next year’s delegates. Oliveti will oversee the International Court of Justice, while Quesnel was tabbed as the Editor in Chief for the Press Corps.
Four members of the delegation were earned “Outstanding Country” awards, based on the collective performance by the 6-7 delegates assigned to represent it across multiple subcommittees and schools:

Four other members earned awards for “Outstanding Research Paper” which goes to one member of each subcommittee based on the research paper they wrote about their assigned country prior to attending the conference. These papers are evaluated by a committee of adult staff for content, formatting, and writing.
