SAYREVILLE, NJ - The Saint Joe’s lacrosse team is back on top of the Greater Middlesex Conference. Following a three-goal rally in the fourth quarter, the Falcons snapped a 9-year championship hiatus, defeating Monroe, 7-5, in the GMC Conference title game.

Trailing by a goal in the fourth quarter, Georgio Vacarolis '24 ripped the game-tying goal off a feed from Jimmy Wasko '25 with 9:34 to play in the match.

Less than three minutes later, middie Nick Hengerer ‘25 scored his second of three goals in the game to give the Falcons the lead. He added a hat trick in the match’s final minutes.

Saint Joe’s controlled the first half of the championship bout, taking a 4-1 lead into halftime. Drew Peters '24 and Hengerer gave the Falcons an early 2-0 advantage. After Monroe’s Salvatore Marchione split the lead in half, Wasko scored back-to-back goals in the second quarter to give the Falcons the three-goal advantage.

Monroe stormed back in the third period, scoring four unanswered goals, including two more from Marchione to take a 5-4 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Hengerer’s hat trick led the way for Saint Joe’s, with Wasko also contributing three points (two goals and an assist). Varcarolis and Drew Peters each contributed a goal and an assist.

Goaltender Nick Zaneto '27 made eight saves in the victory.
