History is brewing on the mats inside Woodburn Hall.
Following a record-breaking season that included a Greater Middlesex Conference title, a third consecutive NJSIAA District title and two wrestlers reaching 100-career wins, the Falcons made history again last weekend in the NJSIAA Region 5 tournament.
Led by Andrew Bouchard ‘25 (first place, 175 pounds) and Tyler Whitford ‘26 (first place, 165 pounds), Saint Joe’s will send a school-record nine wrestlers to the NJSIAA Individual Wrestling State Championship tournament in Atlantic City this weekend.
Zach Beadling ‘25 (132 pounds) and Nico DeRado ‘27 (120 pounds) took second on the weekend, while Julian Arango ‘26 (third place, 113 pounds), Ivan Rego ‘27 (third place, 126 pounds), Morgan Schwarz ‘26 (third place, 157 pounds), Gio Spallino ‘25 (third place, 190 pounds), and Daniel Internoscia ‘25 (fourth place, 215 pounds) all qualified to wrestle inside Boardwalk Hall.
Bouchard stole the show at Union High School by defeating returning state medalist Anthony Verdi (St. Peter’s Prep) in the championship bout.
The NJSIAA Individual Wrestling State Championship takes place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday inside Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
