The Cor Jesu Award
The Cor Jesu Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart at Saint Joseph High School. Recipients are affiliates of the Saint Joseph High School community who have consistently contributed their time, talent and treasure in an exemplary way. They are role models with high ethical standards and spirituality congruent with the charism of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart.
“Ametur Cor Jesu” We have seen this phrase every day at Saint Joe’s since the inception of our school in 1961. For nearly 60 years these words have appeared in the escutcheon (seal) that represents our school. It is in the main foyer, on the flags flown throughout the campus, and on diplomas. This phrase is recited every day after our prayers and masses. The phrase is so simple, but its meaning is so rich…“Loved be the heart of Jesus.”
Father Andre Coindre, the Founder of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart had a single vision for the young men entrusted to his care, to create a holistic approach to formation by developing a students’ natural skills and potential, their knowledge of religion and faith, and their character and sense of personal responsibility under the guidance of the Sacred Heart community.*
This is the essence of the Saint Joseph Cor Jesu Award. It is the highest award given to an individual in the Saint Joseph community. Past recipients of this award are individuals that have provided exemplary service to our school and student body, thereby acting as good stewards of Coindre’s vision and continuing the educational tradition of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart.
