Merit-Based Scholarships

All students are automatically considered for an academic scholarship.  Academic scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen who perform at the top of their class on the Saint Joseph Entrance Exam. These incoming freshmen must also have scored in the top percentiles in prior standardized tests and must have achieved high marks on previous report cards. Please note that Saint Joseph attracts many high achieving students and, therefore, the awarding of academic scholarships is extremely competitive. Students eligible for academic scholarships will receive notification with the offer of admission.

Additional Scholarship Opportunities.

Applicants must submit a 500 word essay which answers all of the following questions.

Why do you wish to attend Saint Joseph High School? How do you see Saint Joseph High School benefiting your personal growth, academic growth, and spiritual growth? What do you expect to contribute to the Saint Joseph Community?

Applicants must submit the required essay by the January 15, 2022 deadline. Applicants will submit only one essay for all eligible scholarships. Please note that some scholarships have specific criteria. Notification of the scholarship award takes place by February 1, 2022. Students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA for the renewable scholarships.

60th Anniversary of Saint Joseph High School Scholarship

This scholarship, given in honor of the Classes of 1966, 1969, 1970, and 1973, offers a $1500 award to an incoming freshman based on the Entrance Exam score, previous standardized test scores, current and historical grades, and essay. The scholarship is applied to the freshman year and is renewable for an additional three years, provided that the student remains in good standing at Saint Joseph High School.

Alumni Scholarship

This scholarship, given in honor of Eric August ’05 and Michael Partipilo ’05, Carl Zeskand ’88, and William Kuhn ’65, offers a $2,500 annual award to an incoming freshman. The scholarship will be awarded based on the applicants Entrance Exam score, previous standardized test scores, current and historical grades, and essay. This scholarship is applied to the freshman year and is non-renewable.

Brother Michael Yerkes Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship offers a one-time $1500 award to an incoming freshman based on the Entrance Exam score, previous standardized test scores, current and historical grades, and essay. The scholarship is applied to the freshman year and is renewable for an additional three years, provided that the student remains in good standing at Saint Joseph High School.

Brother Robert Sheeley Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship offers a one-time $500 award to two incoming freshmen. The students must be enrolled in Saint Augustine of Canterbury in Kendall Park. The recipients will be selected by the Saint Augustine of Canterbury School Leadership Team. This scholarship is applied to the freshman year and is non-renewable.

Brother Ronald Cairns Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship, established by the Saint Joseph Fathers Club in honor of its long-time moderator Brother Ronald Cairns, offers a $2,500 award to an incoming freshman who has need of financial assistance and demonstrates academic promise based on the Entrance Exam score, previous standardized test scores, current and historical grades, and essay. Applicants will need to complete the FACTS Need Based Financial Aid Application to qualify. The scholarship is applied to the freshman year and is renewable for an additional three years, provided that the student remains in good standing at Saint Joseph High School.

Brothers of the Sacred Heart Scholarship

This scholarship offers a $1250 award to an incoming freshman based on the Entrance Exam score, previous standardized test scores, current and historical grades, and essay. The scholarship is applied to the freshman year and is renewable for an additional three years, provided that the student remains in good standing at Saint Joseph High School.

Cpl. Kevin J. Reinhard ’05 Scholarship

This scholarship, established in memory of Cpl. Kevin J. Reinhard ’05, offers a $2500 award to an incoming freshman who has need of financial assistance and demonstrates academic promise based on the Entrance Exam score, previous standardized test scores, current and historical grades, and essay. A student living in Colonia, NJ, or Woodbridge, NJ, receives preference in the awarding of this scholarship. Applicants will need to complete the FACTS Need Based Financial Aid Application to qualify. The scholarship is applied to the freshman year and is renewable for an additional three years, provided that the student remains in good standing at Saint Joseph High School.

David Bixel ’66 Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship offers a $1,000 award to an incoming freshman who has need of financial assistance and demonstrates academic promise based on the Entrance Exam score, previous standardized test scores, current and historical grades, and essay. Applicants will need to complete the FACTS Need Based Financial Aid Application to qualify. The scholarship is applied to the freshman year and is renewable for an additional three years, provided that the student remains in good standing at Saint Joseph High School.

Dr. James M Kunkel ’68 Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship offers a one-time $1250 award to an incoming freshman based on the Entrance Exam score, previous standardized test scores, current and historical grades, and essay. This scholarship is applied to the freshman year and is non-renewable.

Elizabeth Bakaisa Scholarship

This scholarship offers a one-time $1000 award to an incoming freshman who has need of financial assistance and demonstrates academic promise based on the Entrance Exam score, previous standardized test scores, current and historical grades, and essay. A student living in Perth Amboy, NJ receives preference in the awarding of this scholarship. This scholarship is applied to the freshman year and is non-renewable.

Pops Ryan Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship offers a one-time $1500 award to an incoming freshman based on the Entrance Exam score, previous standardized test scores, current and historical grades, and essay. This scholarship is applied to the freshman year and is non-renewable.

Ryan Tormey’03 Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship offers a $2000 award to an incoming freshman based on the Entrance Exam score, previous standardized test scores, current and historical grades, and essay. The scholarship was established by the Tormey Family and the Tormey Law Firm LLC (https://criminallawyerinnj.com) to remember their beloved son and brother, Ryan, Class of 2003. The scholarship is applied to the freshman year and is renewable for an additional three years, provided that the student remains in good standing at Saint Joseph High School.
