College Credit Opportunities
Saint Joseph High School offers a wide variety of courses that go beyond the traditional high school curriculum and provide students with the best possible academic opportunities. Students who meet the departmental guidelines and criteria for entry are eligible to enroll in Advanced Placement (AP) courses, as well as courses that are designated within Project Acceleration, a concurrent enrollment program offered through the College of Arts and Sciences at Seton Hall University.
Both programs are valuable opportunities that aid Saint Joe’s students in earning college credit while still in high school. Participating in these courses not only strengthens academic skills and prepares students for the rigors of college-level work, but also broadens their educational experience. Whether through performance on a standardized AP exam or through successful completion of a dual enrollment course, students gain a head start on their college journey—academically and financially. These options reflect Saint Joe’s commitment to challenging students and supporting their future success.
Advanced placement (ap) courses
Advanced Placement (AP) courses offer high school students the opportunity to engage in college-level studies while still in secondary school. Designed by the College Board, the same organization responsible for the SAT, AP courses are intended to mirror the content and academic rigor of introductory college courses.
These courses culminate in standardized AP exams administered each May. By earning a qualifying score (typically a 3, 4, or 5 out of 5), students may become eligible for college credit or advanced placement at participating colleges and universities. Each institution sets its own policies regarding the acceptance of AP scores for credit or placement, which can allow students to skip introductory courses or enroll in more advanced classes. Project Acceleration (DuAl enrollment program)
Project Acceleration (often called Dual Enrollment) enables qualified Saint Joseph High School students to take approved college-level courses here on our campus for credit through Seton Hall University.
Upon successful completion of the course at the end of the school year, the earned credits appear on an official Seton Hall University transcript. Students may earn up to 22 credits from designated courses taken during high school. Participation is optional and requires meeting Saint Joe’s prerequisites and departmental approval, especially for Honors or Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
A tuition fee must be paid to Seton Hall for each Project Acceleration course the student opts into. Students must earn at least a C (2.0 GPA) for the credits to be considered transferable by most colleges. Unlike AP credit, which depends on standardized exam scores, Dual Enrollment credit is awarded based on the student’s grade in the course. Since credit acceptance policies vary by institution, students are encouraged to contact prospective colleges for guidance on how credits will be evaluated.
