Brothers of the Sacred Heart

We do what we do because god loves us!

Fr. Andre Coindre founded the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in Lyon, France.

The Brothers of the Sacred Heart is a religious congregation of men founded by Fr. Andre Coindre, a priest from the Diocese of Lyon, France, in 1821. Their mission is the evangelization of young people, especially through the ministry of education.

Building a Brotherhood from the Heart of Jesus

The mission of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart is more than a tradition—it is the foundation of everything we do at Saint Joseph High School. For over 125 years, the Brothers have been steadfast in their commitment to forming young men of character, compassion, and conviction in Metuchen, New Jersey.

Rooted in the charism of their founder, Father André Coindre, the Brothers of the Sacred Heart dedicate their lives to the holistic education of young people. Their approach is not simply academic; it is deeply personal, faith-centered, and mission-driven. They see each student as a whole person—mind, body, and spirit—deserving of dignity, guidance, and purpose.

Through daily presence on campus, mentorship, and spiritual leadership, the Brothers help instill a sense of moral responsibility, prayerful reflection, and service to others. Their example inspires our students to grow not only as scholars and athletes, but as men of faith, leadership, and integrity.

In a world that often emphasizes individual achievement, the Brothers call our students to something greater: to live lives of compassion, justice, and community. At Saint Joe’s, we are proud to carry forward this sacred mission—building men of faith, forming servant leaders, and walking always with the Heart of Christ.
